If you have any problems with the site, please email us and we do our best to solve them. Below you will find some tips on searching the database, we strongly recommend you read through them.
Tips for searching the database.
You can enter one or more words, separated by spaces in the search box. When one word is entered, the computer will display every record that contains that word. When more than one word is entered, the computer will only display records that contain all of the chosen words.
For example; If you enter Messerschmitt the computer will display all of our photos of Me109s, Me110s, Me108s, Me262s etc. It will also display photos of Willi Messerschmitt, and any pilots who we state flew the Messerschmitt or indeed shot down a Messerschmitt. To refine the search you could type Messerschmitt 109 JG27 this will only display records that have those three strings within the caption.
There's nothing like a bit of practice to get the best out of a system, so please experiment to see what results you get.
Of course, to use the search effectively you need to know how we input certain names so please consult the following:
 Date
If you are researching a particular date then our dates are entered in the format as follows;
15th August 1940 , or winter 1944
Squadrons/Units
For RAF Squadrons we always list them with the abbreviation Sqn so please enter 617 Sqn and not 617 Squadron.
For German units we generally remove spaces, ie II/JG27 and not II JG 27.
For US units we generally enter 56th FG and not 56th Fighter Group.
